About the Mohalim

  • Alan Kaplan, MD

I am a certified Mohel, performing ritual circumcisions throughout the greater Washington area. As a board-certified urologist, I routinely perform circumcision as part of my clinical practice. I pride myself on blending extensive surgical and ritual training, a deep love for Judaism, and a natural warmth to provide an excellent Brit Milah experience for Jewish families.

After earning my medical degree from Tel Aviv University, I completed urology residency and fellowship at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). In 2019, my family and I moved to the DC area. I am an attending urologist at the Washington DC VA Medical Center..

  • Jonah Murdock, MD

I was certified as a mohel after training at the Jewish Theological Seminary and Rabbinical Assembly in New York. I am the chief of urology at the Washington DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center, an assistant professor of urology at Georgetown University, a fellow of the American College of Surgery, and have a doctorate in philosophy from Northwestern University.

Being a mohel is meaningful to me because I am serving the greater DC Jewish community using the surgical skills I use daily as a urologist. I grew up in Silver Spring and went to primary and secondary school in Rockville at the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School. I am a life long member of Tifereth Israel Congregation in Washington DC, and my wife and I have two adult children.
